Taiwan Railway Bento @ International Plaza

TRB1

We read about their existence in CT hub@Kallang but it was one of our friend who told us about their opening in International Plaza, definitely have to go and try it out.

TRB2

TRB3

Fried Chicken Cutlet Bento – Portion was reasonable with typical Taiwan bento sides such as pickled veg, fried cabbage, Chinese Sausage, braised beancurd and egg. Chicken was crispy and moist inside, and most importantly well seasoned, while the sides were quite good too especially braised egg. ($6.80)

TRB4

Sesame Sauce Noodle – The sesame paste was aromatic and smells quite good, however its flavor wasn’t as strong as the Taiwanese version, noodle was similar and the sauce coated well on it. ($3.80)

Albeit the flavor and taste were slightly toned down, but it is still the closest to what you get in Taiwan, with more affordable pricing and better flavor, they are a strong competitor for Woo Ricebox.

FIVE Viet Bistro Bar @ Tanjong Pagar

The Five Dollars specialist branched out to Tanjong Pagar with their latest venture in Vietnamese food.

five0

Five Viet Bistro Bar is the third F&B joint to occupy this corner unit at Maxwell Chambers in the last 14 months, and hopefully they can break the cycle and stay longer.

five7

Deep Fried Spring Rolls – Skin was rather tough to break while the filling was bland. ($5.00)

five2

Charcoal Vermicelli with Chicken – Not sure where the charcoal come to play, it just taste like normal soup vermicelli with sliced chicken and egg, nothing special. ($9.55)

five3

BBQ Pork Chop with Broken Rice – The pork chop was tender and almost perfect if it wasn’t too salty, rice cooked just nice with sticky but not mushy texture, it matches very well with the beef broth from pho. ($10.55)

five1

five5

five6

Beef Combination PHO – Upon request, they were kind enough to separate the pho and meat into two bowls, pho with diluted beef broth and the meat with its normal broth. Pho was well cooked, retaining its silky smooth yet chewy texture, broth tastes fresh and sweet with its distinctive beef fragrant, the sliced beef was fine but the beef ball came with frozen smell. ($10.55)

As part of their soft launch special, all mains comes with choice of drink.

Moi Lum @ Tanjong Pagar

Moi1

Saw a short introduction on a local TV on Moi Lum as one of the Heritage brand in Singapore and was intrigued to try.

Moi3

Roast Chicken Rice – Chicken has smooth and juicy texture, the saltiness in the meat combined well with rice, it was actually quite appetizing. ($7.90)

Moi2

Mini Pot Braised Pork Rice – The braised pork wasn’t cooked long enough for the flavor to infuse into the meat, the rice was also cook unevenly as some was too hard to bite, the unacceptable part was the meatball inside the diluted bone soup, not only it tastes funny but was too smelly that a small bite will leave a strange smell inside your mouth. ($8.90)

Moi4

Vegetarian Fried Rice – Fried with chopped and diced mushroom, beancurd, carrot and vegetable stem, while only diced carrot was undercooked, the whole thing was more of soy sauce mixed rice instead of fried rice, it reminds me of my first attempt to cook fried rice when i was still a kid. ($6.00)

The only positive was the roast chicken, while the rest was a huge disappointment for a Heritage brand that specialize in Cantonese cuisine, their cooks simply didn’t master the basic technique of stir-frying and braising, not to mention serving your customer the meat with funny taste.

PS Cafe @ Ann Siang Hill

ps1

Serene surroundings, good ambiance, excellent dessert, what more could you ask for?

ps2

Have a sip…

ps3

And we cut to the chase and order two starters to begin; We had Signature Crab Cake ($20), taste absolutely crab and that’s about it, and Crispy Calamari ($17) which was crunchy but tasteless to eat without the dipping sauce.

ps4

Roasted Tomato Soup – The soup was too acidic to my liking, and lack of natural sweetness of tomato. ($14)

Although the photo is missing, but it was worth mentioning though that the French Onion soup ($14) taste much better.

ps5

Rotiserrie Chicken (w/ salad & creme spinach) – The chicken probably overcooked as the meat was lacking moisture, it taste okay but we reckon it might not live up to its price. ($36)

ps6

Green Goddess – At least 3 types of green vegetables (peas, asparagus, etc) involved in this dish, all of them together with the penne were cooked perfectly, unfortunately the blended herb pesto sauce tastes nothing but herby, without the help of grated parmesan, this dish tastes close to nothing . ($26)

All in all, probably we should have come here just for the dessert and enjoy the atmosphere.
