Tendon Ginza Itsuki @ Tanjong Pagar

Ginza Tendon Itsuki was a newly opened Tendon restaurant which located in Tanjong Pagar, near Ramen Keisuke.  This restaurant is a collaboration between  chef-owner Mr Naoki Takaku of Ginza Itsuki Sushi and Ramen Keisuke.

The menu is simple, only 2 options – Vegetables Tendon ($12.90) or Special Tendon ($13.90) which includes a onsen eggs, prawn, chicken and vegetables. Both sets come with a bowl of miso soups and chawanmushi.

The chawanmushi is smooth silky  and I can even had 2 portions.

It makes me surprise when I look at the huge bowl served in front of me. The thickness of the batter was just nice and crunchy. The vegetables and meats were fried in different temperature and that’s why you still can taste the freshness and sweetness of the ingredients. They only fried the ingredients only when you make order. And the good thing is that the food is less greasy and oily.

It was highly recommended for first timer to try their tendon.

The Wicked Garlic @ International Plaza

Wciked1

Very popular among hungry workers from surrounding office buildings, The Wicked Garlic almost guaranteed for full house during lunch time.

Wicked2

Caesar Salad – Well, it was rather sloppy with dollop of dressing and cheese powder saturated in the middle of everything, veg was fresh and crouton was okay. (This dish was part of the set lunch of the day)

Wicked3

Penne Tossed With Grilled Vegetable in Aglio Olio Style – Pasta was well seasoned, but the grilled veg has different texture, some overcooked some cooked nicely, most of them were not cut in the same size. (This dish was part of the set lunch of the day)

The Ceasar Salad and Grilled Veg Penne were part of the set lunch of the day, complete with a choice of drink (coffee, tea, homemade ice lemon tea) – $12.70

Wicked4

Risotto Di Verdure Grigliate Miste – Being a big fan of risotto, this was the first time I saw risotto served with option of tomato or cream sauce, and while I was expecting that it meant ‘base’, I was wrong, it was literally rice with sauce. The rice was cooked al dente, but the sauce was simply too watery. ($8.70)

I understand it takes quite amount of time to prepare it from scratch, but to serve risotto this way and call it as risotto was simply unacceptable.

Apart from being affordable, they offer wide variety of pasta and flavor, but sadly done sloppily. If you are looking for simple decent pasta, Pasta Mania would be a better choice.

Pita & Olives @ 100AM

Pita1

We wanted to try something else apart from our daily rice or noodles lunch and decided Pita & Olives seem to be a good bet.

Pita2

Hummus (w/ additional chickpeas) – Their dish was surprisingly light in flavor, chickpeas cooked nicely and with the Mediterranean salad, the whole dish taste like your regular salad with hummus as dressing, even healthier but not everyone will enjoy it. ($11.90 + $1.50)

Pita3

Grilled Kebab (Half Pita) – Filled with the same Mediterranean salad and dressing, only that the main was kebab. The kebab was rich in flavor and spices aroma, nice and tasty, but portion was a bit small for a guy. ($6.90)

Pita4

Falafel (Whole Pita) – Again it was the same Mediterranean salad and dressing, but this was with falafel. The falafel contain more moist compare to what I had at other places, it taste lighter too. ($9.50)

Align with their slogan “healthy & tasty”, their dishes were all lighter in flavor but yet it was tasty enough, but again, it wasn’t for everyone.

Kamal Restaurant @ Stanley Street

Kamal1

Located 2-3 minutes walk from Amoy Food Centre, we received a tip from someone that this restaurant sells one of the best fried chicken briyani in Singapore, having heard that we were so eager to head there to try.

Kamal2

Kamal3

This was the said fried chicken nasi briyani ($6.00), furnished with pickled cucumber, papadam and crispy bits from the fried chicken batter. The chicken was dry and apart from mild heat and saltiness, there was nothing else. The rice was cold, dry and bland, and although the gravy taste nice but it was cold too.

The vegetable briyani was a let-down too, same cold and bland rice, the vegetables and gravy albeit tasted okay, they were all cold too.

Kamal7

Their drinks were the only thing that were up to par, though both look the same, they were teh halia and teh tarik.

We spent a total $15.40, it was an overstatement to say they are great or one of the best in Singapore.
